Do You Trust Him?
Proverbs 3:5 ESV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
Psalm 9:10 ESV
And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
Matthew 7:7-8 ESV
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
If you didn’t recognize it by reading it, trust is an action word. It seems easier said than done, but truly it is as easy as a decision. I, personally, want to become so trusting with God that it becomes second nature. Not a decision to make, but the reality of my existence. That may seem impossible, especially when we are surrounded by entertainment, ideals and people that are constant in promoting doubt, fears and control. But if we take a second to recount our lives, we realize most of our fears and doubt come from agreements that we have made. We have agreed that we are incapable. We have agreed that the burden is too hard to bear. We have agreed that the sickness will win. We have agreed that it is not worth the trouble. We have agreed that God is not truly God. But that is a lie.
In my life, I found that most of my doubt, fear and control were rooted in dis-trust. Because I determined that the patterns of those around me were either inconsistent or undesirable, I chose to over control the things around me. I over-planned, over-worked, and to no avail. I ended up stressed, hurt and felt alone. One day God knocked on my heart and I realized my trust didn’t only concern people, but was aimed at God. I didn’t trust God with my hopes and dreams. I didn’t trust God with my relationships. I didn’t trust God with my finances and business ideas. Then I looked up and cried to God on how I was sad, lonely, depressed, stressed and tired.
As soon as I had this realization I made a decision to truly trust God. My motto for 2025 is “Do you really trust God or not”. I had to ask myself that and I am turning the question over to you. Do you really trust God? When you read the Bible and quote the scriptures to your friends or post them online, do you really believe what it says? Do you believe that you were fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)? Do you believe that God’s plans for you are to prosper you, not harm you, and to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11)? Do you believe that Jesus is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 26:3)? Do you believe that God’s seed does not beg bread (Psalm 37:25)? Do you believe that by his stripes you are healed (1 Peter 2:24)?
If you do, then act like it. Place action behind your trust. Trust God with your worship, with your praise, with your time, with your finances. Seek him in humility and allow him to establish your path with all knowledge to who you are, your beginning, your end, and the best path for you (Hebrews 11:6; James 4:10).
When I looked back on my life, I saw all the people that I hurt with my distrust. The situations I made worse and the attitudes I gave for things that truly didn’t matter. It’s one thing not to trust people, because you never know what they will do or their intentions. Trust exposes us, it causes us to be vulnerable to ideas, actions and thoughts of others. But with God, we know. We know God is innately good, he is completely just, he knows the path for us to take because he knows the future. He wants for us, but he will not control us. Did you know that God hurts when we turn our backs on him? Did you know that God feels? The evil in the world and its separation from him caused him to regret that he even made man. Because separation was never the intention. Just like the devil to cause God to bear the consequences for his actions. Come back. Seek him. Trust him. Love him. He loves you with his whole spirit.
Without trust a relationship with God cannot stand (Hebrews 11:6). I challenge you today to seek his face. Start with this:
Write in your notes or journal 1. Today’s date and 2. What you are believing God for (Habakkuk 2:2; Matthew 19:26). (Not something within your control but something that takes imagination. Write something that makes you nervous to want and choose to believe God is able to do exceedingly and abundantly.) 3. Take some time, 10-20 minutes, to praise God and worship him in whatever way you would like (but offer him something: your time, your entertainment, your tears, your words) (Matthew 6:33; Proverbs 8:17; Matthew 7:7-8) 4. Remember what you wrote, and when it happens write down the date that God met your trust with his love.
I love you with all the love of Christ!
