Thorn in My Side

Reading the Bible, I used to get frustrated at the seemingly conflicting rules, regulations and ideas. Like why would God tell Hosea to marry a prostitute? Why did God “regret” anything when he is God and knows everything before it happens? Can we eat meat or not? Over the years I have answered these questions and yet the devil will still try to inch into the details to set confusion or doubt on the validity of the Bible and of God.

However, when I think of these questions and several ideals, I realize that God uses people, situations and concepts to bring across his message. It could be literal, it could be spiritually metaphorical, but it is all God.

Consider that maybe God allows questions and leaves things seemingly unclear to solidify our need to have a true relationship with him. Personally, this is the thorn in my side. It’s the thorn that keeps me from being self-righteous. I have to lean on God to lead me in everything because God’s will can look ways I never considered. This thorn keeps me chasing Jesus and causes intentionality. How easy it would be to give up and let doubt sink in. But I refuse and pray that my faith won’t ever fail.

Deciding that his Word is always true is the foundation of my faith and the beginning of my understanding. Some understanding of which only comes through spiritual knowledge and holy conversation.

Do you wonder why God didn’t write certain things in his word. because he wants you to ask him and truly listen. He wants to share with you his secret things and not only engage in relationship with you but give you tools to encourage relationships with others.

Why does the word seem hypocritical? The same reason why Jesus began speaking in Parables in the first place. It’s interesting how many Unbelievers sound just like the Pharisees. Those with an ear to hear will listen to the Word of God. If you really want to know God and understand his word, it starts with the humility of realizing you need him, want him and he wants you too.
